City of Cranbrook Public Works has shut off water service Friday to residents in the area of 7th Street South and 16th Avenue South as the result of repairs to a broken water main.

"Crews are on scene and beginning the excavation of the break," said the City of Cranbrook. "It is expected water services to nearby residents will be off for most of the day until the repair is completed."

The City of Cranbrook is asking any motorists in the area to make sure they slow down and watch for any barricades and signage, following any and all directions of water utility crews and staff that are on scene.

"As with any work around water services, it is normal for those affected to find some dirty water once water service is restored."

Residents simply need to run their cold water taps to clear any discolouration or discharge.
