The East Kootenay's largest annual festival runs from Thursday to Sunday this week.
The 2018 Sam Steele Days festival promises to be one of the biggest and best yet.
Thursday will start off relatively small, with a kick-off pancake breakfast at the Tamarack Mall from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm, as well as a barbeque at the Cranbrook Public Library from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Friday will feature a few larger events, including the Sweetheart Youth Ambassador Pageant, and the beginnings of both the Sam Steele Ball Tournament and the KEYSA Youth Soccer Tournament.
Saturday will prove to be the largest day of the event, commencing with the Sam Steele Days Grand Parade. Starting at 10:30 am, it will run from 2nd Street South between Mount Baker Secondary and Safeway and will end at Louis Street/13 Ave South. A map of the parade route can be found below:
Following the parade, Balment Park behind Western Financial Place will host a wide range of activities form 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Among other things, this will include the Strong Man Competition, which will be broadcast nationally by Sportsnet.
Sunday will wrap up Sam Steele Days with festivities like the NW Mounted Police Heritage Demonstration, Father's Day at the Fort Steele Heritage Town, and the torch lighting for the 55+ BC Summer Games.
On Saturday, BC Transit will be providing free bus rides to and from the Sam Steele festivities.
