This year's theme will be "Celebrating the Spirit of Cranbrook: Its History, Its People, Its Future."
Cranbrook's largest annual festival is kicking into higher gear, announcing the theme surrounding the event.
Administrator with the Sam Steele Days Society Pamela Berry felt that it would be a great way to honour those who have done so much for the community.
"There's just been so many people in the community that have put so much forward with their volunteerism and everything in Cranbrook to make it what it is. Then just with the passing of a lot of people that were friends of our board, we just thought we would include that in our theme this year."
Perhaps the biggest way this will be done is by reaching out to the groups that will be in the parade to incorporate the people who have contributed greatly to their organization or to the community as a whole.
She says there will be a variety of other ways that Cranbrook's volunteers will be recognized at the central fairgrounds.
Speaking of central fairgrounds, Berry says that will once again be at Balment Park behind Western Financial Place, adding that the ongoing disputes over KEYSA's proposed Indoor Sports Facility will not impact this year's festival.
For the event itself, there will be several hard-hitters returning once again, including the parade, Sam Steele Ball Tournament, Sam Steele Market, the Strongman Classic, Community Talent Showcase, Sweetheart Youth Ambassador Pageant, KEYSA Youth Soccer Tournament, and others.
At the time of publication, Berry says more than 40 groups have registered for the Sam Steele Market, although she is anticipating that more will join shortly.
Anyone looking to participate in the parade or market, or advertise through the event is encouraged to register within the next couple of weeks on the official event's website.
Sam Steele Days runs from June 13-16.
