Emergency responders were on the scene of a large fire in Sparwood Heights Thursday, prompting an evacuation of an apartment complex overnight.
According to early reports, Building B of Ponderosa Manor in Sparwood Heights went up in flames late Thursday evening around 9:30 pm, prompting a full response from the Sparwood Fire Department and other emergency authorities, including Search and Rescue.
The District of Sparwood says the Emergency Social Services has since set up a Reception Centre at the Sparwood Recreation Centre.
"A Reception Centre has been set up at the Leisure Centre, located at 367 Pine Avenue, to receive all people affected by the fire in Sparwood Heights," said the District of Sparwood. "Currently Public Works and Search and Rescue vehicles are shuttling people from the Heights to the Leisure Centre, a bus is expected to arrive shortly to assist with shuttling people."
Evacuees and displaced residents are asked to register at the Leisure Centre so that emergency responders know they are safe and that everyone is accounted for.
Anyone else affected is asked to register so they are also eligible for any and all supports from Emergency Social Services.
The Emergency Social Services Director, Joyce Kutzner, can be contacted at 250-425-4752.
At this time, it is believed no one was injured in the fire.
Summit 107 has no other details to report on the apartment fire at this time, but will have more details as they become available.
