The Panorama Area Official Community Plan (OCP) process is ongoing, as the RDEK held its second Open House this week to further educate residents and continue to collect feedback from the public.

“RDEK staff provided an overview of the results of the recent Issues & Ideas Survey and attendees had the opportunity to begin providing feedback on potential policies and direction that could be included in the plan,” said Susan Clovechok, RDEK Area F Director of the most recent Open House on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

The Issues & Ideas Survey had 249 total respondents, collecting data about the Panorama area such as property type, development potential, affordability, secondary suites, commercial development, short term rentals, and community concerns.

Another survey is now available to residents in order to gather input on some potential policy changes. The survey will remain open until September 2, 2019, and is available online.

“In addition to the survey, we have launched a new interactive mapping tool that provides an opportunity for residents and property owners in the plan area to provide more detailed information, share their local knowledge, and identify areas of concern,” added Karen Macleod, RDEK Planner.

The pin drop map is a new feature with the Panorama Area OCP, offering new ways for the public to provide input and feedback to the RDEK.

"People can go on there and indicate areas that they like, or things that they appreciate, or areas where they might have some concern and they can choose the pin drop and then they can leave a comment outlining their thoughts about that," Clovechok told Summit 107. "It really gives us a visual idea of the areas of the plan area that people have some passion about."

The Regional District of East Kootenay said they are continuing consultation with Panorama Mountain Resort, First Nations and area stakeholders in the coming months as the Panorama OCP proceeds. Once public consultation is complete in September, the public won't be able to provide input again until the formulation of the draft Panorama Area OCP, which will be brought back for public comments ahead of final approval and adoption.
