Kootenay Savings Gives Back $89,000 to 19 Community Groups

Christmas is coming early for numerous non-profits throughout the East and West Kootenays.

The Kootenay Savings Community Foundation is dolling out their bi-annual community grants.

“At a time when many community programs and services are facing cutbacks in funding, it’s important for us as a local credit union to show the deep commitment we have to our communities," says Community Liaison Aron Burke. "That’s why it’s so exciting to be able to announce this latest distribution of grants and donations, totalling over $89,000!”

Locally, the funds are as follows:

  • All Kootenays:
    • Columbia Basin Environmental Education Network
      • $2,500
      • Wild Voices for Kids Program
  • East Kootenay:
    • Columbia Valley Community Foundation
      • $6,310
      • Community Grants Program
    • Kimberley & District Community Foundation
      • $5,882
      • Community Grants Program

The remaining 16 groups are based in the West Kootenay.

Since its inception in 2000, nearly $4.6-million in grants, endowments, and bursaries have been given out throughout the region.
