The Kimberley Dynamiters winning streak reached double digits over the weekend, while the Golden Rockets climbed to third place in the Eddie Mountain Division Standings as two weeks remain in the KIJHL regular season.
In Invermere on Friday, Kimberley defeated the Columbia Valley Rockies 3-1, outshooting their divisional opponent 46-21. Former Rockies forward Ryan Skytt led Kimberley with a goal and an assist while Columbia Valley netminder C.J. Wedenig put up a valiant effort, making 43 saves in the loss.
Returning to the Kimberley Civic Centre on Saturday, the Dynamiters obliterated the visiting Grand Forks Border Bruins 10-1 to win their 10th straight contest. Outshooting Grand Forks 63-21, five Nitros players had three points including Brock Palmer (2G, 1A), Keegan McDowell (2G, 1A), Cam Russell (2G, 1A), Jackson Bohan (1G, 2A), and Brandt Bertoia (3A).
Meanwhile, the Columbia Valley Rockies losing slide continued on Saturday. The Rockies would drop their fifth in a row following a 6-1 loss to the Fernie Ghostriders at Fernie Memorial Arena.
In Fernie's only game of the weekend, the Ghostriders dominated Columbia Valley. Firing 55 shots on goal to the Rockies 25, David Lenzin (1G, 2A), Johnny Elias (2G), and Tyler Witzke (2A) all led the Ghostriders to their second straight win, officially locking up their spot as the Eddie Mountain Division's second seed in the upcoming KIJHL playoffs.
While Columbia Valley struggled over the weekend, the Golden Rockets shined. Winning back-to-back games at Golden Arena, the Rockets launched their way past the Rockies into third place in the Eddie Mountain Division standings, a drastic turnaround from their past three seasons, where they combined for just 13 wins. This season, the Rockets now have 22 wins, adding two this past weekend with 6-1 and 5-2 wins over the Grand Forks Border Bruins and Creston Valley Thunder Cats.
