District of Elkford Hosting Evacuation Town Hall Meeting Wednesday Evening

Residents of Elkford can learn more about the current wildfire situation in the community.

An evacuation ALERT was issued for properties in and around Elkford Tuesday afternoon, due to the wildfire risk from the Quinn Creek fire southeast of the town.

As of the most recent update from BC Wildfire Service, this fire is 7,513 hectares large, growing by approximately 1,000 hectares since Tuesday.

Included in the ALERT are the District of Elkford, Line Creek, Green Hills, the Fording River Operations, as well as all rural properties north of Sparwood.

The Regional District of East Kootenay reminds all effected peoples that evacuation ALERTS are issued as a precautionary measure and are meant to give residents ample time to prepare in case the situation worsens.

Residents can ask any questions they may have at the Elkford Community Conference Centre in Teck Hall.

The town hall meeting gets underway at 7:00 pm Wednesday.

Regular updates will also be posted to the District of Elkford's website and Facebook page.
